Lesson
1. Read a book about ladybugs.  Discuss the book and what ladybugs look like.

2. Sing a song and do a fingerplay about lady bugs located at
Preschool Education Click on "Music & Songs" and then click on "Bugs".

3. Have the children write a poem about a ladybug. If the children do not know how to write yet, write a poem as a class, and have them copy it onto a piece of paper for handwriting practice or skip this step.

Songs and Fingerplays: "Ladybug, Ladybug" or "Ladybug"

4. Print the Preschool Express Ladybug pattern (they have different sizes) or ladybug shape book.

Instructions for making the ladybug

Variation #1 - Ladybug Mosiac
Give a piece of red construction paper (enough to cover the pattern) and small piece of black construction to each child.  Have them tear the construction paper into small pieces.  Have them glue the red on their ladybug.  Have glue the black on top of the red.  Let dry.

Variation #2
Have them color the ladybug red with a crayon or paint.  Give each child some hole punched black circles.  Have the children glue it on their ladybug.

5. Glue the ladybug poem on the back of the ladybug.

6. Make a ladybug snack.
