Part 1: Linking Pictures Introduction
For years, Reunion has had the capability of linking to picture files so they can be displayed either in Reunion or as prints produced by its companion program, SuperChart. In the past, pictures had to be in the Macintosh PICT format. Now, Reunion has multimedia features capable of linking to pictures in several different formats, to sound files, and to movie files.

Part 2: Linking Sounds

Introduction—You can link Reunion to sound files that might be of genealogical interest. Home tape recorders were available in the early 1950s, and home video cameras have been available since the 1970s, so genealogy researchers may have collected “sound bites” that go back two or three generations. If you have a famous ancestor, you might even find sound bites of that ancestor’s voice dating back as far as the late 19th century

Using Adobe PhotoDeluxe™
to Edit Photos for Digital Display
I’m a “hacker” when it comes to digital photo editing. I’ve worked a little with an old copy of Adobe Photoshop LE, and I’ve seen experts do some wonderful things with the fancy newer versions of Photoshop, but I’d just like to take some old photos I have scanned and make them presentable on a computer screen and, perhaps, print a few for the fun of it.

File Sharing Simplified
A Quick and Easy Way to Move Files Between Macs
You have a desktop Mac at home and you’ve just got a new Powerbook or iBook to “take your computing on the road.” Or, perhaps a friend or relative just stopped by with some great new digital pictures on his Mac that you would really like to copy. How do you move all that data from Mac to
Mac? Macs don’t have floppy drives now—besides, those huge digital pictures wouldn’t fit on a tiny floppy disk anyway! Oh, what to do—what to do??

The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the software protocol used to transfer files over the Internet. Thousands of FTP servers have been set up to allow the public to download and try out files. When you set up your own Web site, using an FTP client to upload the files is the easiest and quickest solution for "posting" information to your Web site.

CD-R and CD-RW recording equipment that cost $5,000 and more a few sort years ago have suddenly become very popular. This popularity is clearly because prices have fallen sharply. Today, you can purchase a high-quality CD-R/RW external drive (a “burner”) for your Mac in the $230 to $430 range. Various models come with USB, SCSI, and FireWire signal interfaces to connect to your computer. If you have the drive installed “internally” into a Macintosh G3 or G4 blue-box, you'll save the cost of a case and power supply—dropping the price even more!
