Mini-Lesson Music Activities for Thump, Thump, Rat-A-Tat-Tat
Have the child/ren think of opposite words. (e.g. big/little, tall/short, ...)
Mention that loud and soft are opposites.
Talk about various dynamics: soft, loud, louder, soft, softer, softest, etc. that occur in the book. (Give examples using your voice.)
As you read the book, have the children use a speaking voice, say: Rat-a-tat-tat each time you read it in the book. (Make sure to mention to them to follow your clue of how loud or soft to be.)
Add instruments to the speaking voice (or just use instruments). Use instruments, a drum, hit chopsticks or craft sticks on block boards, books, etc. hit two blocks together, tap on a book or table using your hand, etc.

Craft
Make a drum or other musical instrument. See above for instructions of playing in the band.
You can make other instruments.
Have the children march in the band.

March
Have the children march in a line, a circle, around the house or classroom. Have them count as they march.
You can have them march to The Love of the Three Oranges: March @ midiworld by Sergei Prokofiev.
