Sing And Read: The Ants Go Marching

Ant Activities
Literature: Read an ant book.

Math & Science:
Look at a photo of an ant.  Count how many legs it has.  Name the body parts.  Count the body parts.

Art: Draw or paint a picture of ants.  Use stamp pads to make ants on a piece of paper.

Dramatic Play:  Crawl on the floor like an ant.  Pretend to look for food, take it back to the ant hole, eat the food, etc.

Music & Physical Education: Sing: The Ants Go Marching @ NIEHS - Lyrics & Music  Have the children stand in a straight line and march like ants.  Do the actions mentioned in the song.

Science: Ants in Its Pants: Be Observ-ANT Observe ants for five day.  Record what you see the ants doing for each day.  Day a picture.

Ant Home Economics / Cooking / Snacks

Ants in Sand
Place a graham cracker (or other cracker or baked good if your diet is gluten/wheat free) in a bag that zips or that you can twist tie.  Roll a rolling pin over it or have the children crush the cracker into small pieces.  (For younger children, the second option children like more.)  Place some raisins or chocolate chips in the bag.  Eat with a spoon or with your hands.

Ants on a Log (Graham Crackers)
Place frosting, peanut butter, jam/jelly/preserves, etc. on a graham cracker.  Place raisins (or chocolate chips) on it.

Frosting
1 tablespoon softened margarine (omit if needed; just add extra water/milk)
1 cup + powdered sugar
1 tablespoon rice/soy/cow milk or water
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract or drop or two of mint or orange, etc. extract

Mix everything together with a spoon.  (Add a litle more milk/water if needed.)
