it out. Make a beak about 1 3 /4 inches long using yellow
construction paper. Hole punch a hole and place yarn through it.
Glue the head where it is about halfway on a 9 inch or so paper
plate. Glue the beak and toasted oats cereal for eyes or use
wiggle eyes on the head. Paint
or use an orange markers on an index card (make it about a two

the
paper plate. Let dry.
#2 Turkey Pattern Instructions:
Take a piece of light construction paper, cut an area for the legs to
be about 2 inches long, round the construction paper off for the body
from the legs, and then round it off to make the feathers on the top
(make it wavey like real feathers are there). On the top third of
a turkey pattern paint a circle. You can make on out of paper by
tracing a toilet paper roll using brown paper. Cut it out.
Glue it on the paper. Make a beak about 1 3 /4 inches long using
orange or yellow paper. Hole punch a hole and place yarn through
it. Glue it on if your using paper. Place wiggle eyes
and glue the beak on. Make a red wattle using a finger
under the head. Finger paint using different colors (red, brown,
yellow,
orange, etc.). You can use paper towels for a different
effect. Let dry.
#3 Print the turkey pattern on a light colored construction paper
located at any of these sites (or make your own from the instructions

Theme(s): Thanksgiving, Turkey, Animals, Fall, Autumn
Place the poem on the paper. Put the bottom part of the
child's hand
and thumb in brown paint
for the body), the fingers in red, blue, green, and yellow for the
feathers, and a tip of a finger in
red for the wattle (under the turkeys head). Make 5 hand prints.
This was on a poem my daughter gave me for Thanksgiving. (She
did it in Nursery at church.)
These aren't just turkeys
As anyone can see.
I made them with my hands,
Which are a part of me!
It comes with lots of love
Especially to say--
I hope you have a
Very Happy
Thanksgiving Day!

#6
Turkey Hand Craft
Trace around one hand. Have the child draw or paint two feet, a
beak, and a red wattle. Color the fingers (feathers).
For older children (or help younger children or write on the blackboard
or another piece of paper). Sing I Am Thankful
song. Write five things they are thankful for (above the
feathers). (You can make as many turkeys that fit on the page.)
#7
Toilet Paper Turkey Craft and Dramatic Play
Cut a piece of brown construction paper to be 4 1/2 (almost) x 6
inches. Tape onto an empty toilet paper roll and then tape or
glue it on at the end. Have the child trace his/her thumb onto a piece
of brown paper (it needs to
be about 1 1/2 inches long). Fold under the bottom part.
Make two circles out of paper for the eyes (or use wiggly eyes).
Place on the top part of the head. Cut a long triangle beak out
of light brown paper. Fold the straight end over. Glue on in
middle of the head (or draw one). Have the child trace his/her
little finger onto red paper (for the wattle). Fold under
some and glue on the bottom of the folded part of the turkeys
neck. Make a caruncle (snood) out of red paper. Glue it
over the beak. Place the toilet paper roll onto a table (so you
know where to place the head). Place the folded part of the head
under the toilet paper roll. Tape it on the top part toilet paper
roll. Place about three feathers onto a strip (or two) of masking
tape. Place some more tape on top of the bottoms of the
feathers. Place on the back top inside of the toilet paper
roll. (You can make a few feathers out of construction
paper. Fold the ends over and glue on the back of the
turkey. Let dry.) You will need to help younger
children do this craft or have the different body parts already
made. Decorate your turkey.
Thankful Turkey: Do the above except have the child/ren can write on
the paper feathers, what he/she is thankful for (do this before you
glue it onto the turkey). Sing I Am Thankful
song.
Dramatic Play: Have the child/ren gobble like a turkey with his/her
turkey.

pine cone. Let dry. (You can use a hot glue gun if you
guide the child's hands.)

Turkey Books
A Plump and Perky Turkey by Teresa Bateman (Scholastic
Books) A turkey applied for the positon as a "Model" for an art
show. He realized what the town wanted him for so he left after
he modeled for them.
Use a turkey pattern or draw a turkey. Have the child/ren make
his/her own turkey out of contact paper (make sure there is some paper
edges left so it won't be hard for the child to take the paper off),
construction paper, newspaper, rope, string, yarn, featheres, leaves,
oatmeal, different grains, bean, corn, pasta, rice, etc. and
place it on a turkey pattern. Have the child/ren cut or tear into the
