The face of the Centerstone contains thirteen circle-dot petroglyphs arrayed in a spiral fashion. Click here to see a 3d model of the stone.

The stone was tilted to align closely with the summer solstice noontime sun. It was also aligned to an axis of the winter solstice sunrise and summer solstice sunset

The western most petroglyph on the stone is the summer solstice marker. A beam of light shines through the crack, in the upper left hand corner of the picture. The ten degree slope of the face of the stone allows it to be shaded at noon on summer solstice. This beam of light hits the circle dot petroglyph almost dead center shortly before noon. as the sun rises higher towards the zenith, the spot of light grows to fill the circle.
