Introduction

It is important that we protect the earth.  Why, you ask?  Well, that is exactly what you will learn by doing this Earth Day Webquest.  You will also learn what you can do for the earth and how to get others involved.

This webquest is meant for students at the 5th grade level with some knowedge of how to use the internet and PowerPoint.  It can be done by students on their own, in teams or as a class.

The Task

In order to learn about earth day you will need to complete the following tasks. These tasks will be further explained in the process section of this webquest.
 

1.  Locate websites to answer some general earth day questions

2.  Complete an Earth Day Internet Scavenger Hunt

3.  Organize and develop a powerpoint presentation to explain Earth Day to your your buddy class

4.  Final Earth Day project (of your choice)

The Process


 1.  Locate websites to answer some general earth day questions.  Write the questions, answers and URLs of where the answers were found on a sheet of paper or email them to your teacher.  Use some of the websites in the resources section of this site to find your answers.

What is Earth Day?
When is Earth Day?

Who created Earth Day and why?

Name 3 things you could organize to help save the earth and its resources.


 2. Complete an Earth Day Internet Scavenger Hunt

Make sure you bookmark the main page of the site so you can get back to it easily.  Click on each letter in The Earth Day Challenge to get to each question, starting with T (for The).  You will need the Flash plugin to do parts of this scavenger hunt.
 

 3.  Organize and develop a powerpoint presentation to explain Earth Day to your your buddy class.  This presentation needs to have at least 10 slides and tell what you have learned about Earth Day.  One slide need to be a credits slide.  Find at least 3 images relating to Earth Day and put them in the presentation.  Make sure to give credit for the images used.
 

 4. Final Earth Day project.  Complete one of the projects listed below or develop your own project and submit a project idea to your teacher.  The project must get many people involved in an Earth Day activity. If your teacher approves your project go ahead and complete that one instead.
